Background
United Women Banja Luka was officially registered on August 16, 1996 in Banja Luka, BiH, as a local non-profit, non-governmental citizens’ association, with the key objective to work on protection and advancement of women’s human rights and gender equality in the private and public sphere. In 2012, United Women Banja Luka initiated transformation into non-profit, non-governmental foundation, in line with current Law on Associations and Foundations.

Mission: Strengthen and affirm women through advocacy on the implementation of women's human rights.

Strategic Goals
Our strategic goals include fighting against gender based violence, empowering women to participate in social changes, promoting gender responsible media in Bosnia and Herzegovina and strengthening networking and cooperation with other civil society organizations and official institutions in promoting and protecting women’s human rights at the local, national, regional, and international levels.

Programs
One program worth highlighting is Advancing Participation of Women in Governance and Gender Sensitive Policy Making in Bosnia and Herzegovina where we aimed to ensure cooperation of women civil society activists and women parliamentarians at entity, state, and BiH Brcko District level on implementation of priorities jointly defined by the Program Platform 2010-2014. Another is the Monitoring of Criminal Offence Judicial Proceedings on Gender Based Violence in BiH in partnership with the Center for Free Legal Assistance for Women Zenica (BiH). There we ensured independent monitoring of criminal court practice on proceeding cases of gender based violence against women, and public advocacy on providing assistance to women survivors of violence.
