Media Outreach on UNSCR 1325 and 1820

GNWP's Media Outreach on UNSCR 1325 and 1820 program raises public awareness of UNSCR 1325, 1820 and the supporting resolutions at the country and community levels.  It uses a convergence of radio, television, and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

This project raises public awareness of UNSCR 1325 and 1820 and allows members to: promote partnerships between the media and women’s civil society groups to encourage reporting on women and peace and security issues; facilitate sustained media and communication outreach at country and community levels; stimulate public dialogues on the issues addressed by the resolutions; and engage a wide range of media platforms such as radio, television, print, blogging, and social media.

Radio and TV spots produced as part of this program in national and local languages have been used as instruments to stop sexual and gender-based violence; to promote women’s participation in decision-making; and to hold the government and local communities’ accountable for the implementation of UNSCR 1325 and 1820. The 1325 Media Outreach project is currently being implemented in Colombia, Liberia, Nepal and South Sudan.

GNWP also coordinates "Women Speak Out for Peace," a global media campaign held annually during the International Day of Peace to transform the images of women in the media from victims of conflict to peacebuilders, decision-makers and agents of change.
