Advocacy around CEDAW General Recommendation 30

GNWP’s advocacy has been instrumental in the development and adoption of the CEDAW General Recommendation (GR) 30. GR 30 is the first CEDAW GR specifically on Women in Conflict Prevention, Conflict and Post-conflict Situations.

GNWP and its member organizations provided critical input to the draft of GR 30. GNWP also actively participated in advocacy efforts that lead to the adoption of CEDAW GR 30 in October 2013. Since then, GNWP has continued to lobby for the use of GR 30 as a strong complementary mechanism promoting accountability to UNSCR 1325, 1820 and the supporting resolutions, through capacity-building and organizing discussions between CEDAW Committee members, UN Security Council members and other Member States, civil society and UN agencies.

The CEDAW Committee has recognized GNWP’s contribution and inputs on the complementarity between CEDAW and UNSCR 1325, 1820, and the supporting Women, Peace and Security resolutions, and these are reflected in background documents and the actual GR 30.
